About my artwork
I paint with my hands but my feelings, emotions and my intuition are in charge; the hand is just a tool. I never know how a paining is going to look like in the end. It is always a surprise to me. All I am doing is to stay as much as possible in a meditative, no-thought, neutral state of mind and let the intuition do the work, pick the right color, move the canvas, stroke the brush in the right direction.
It is all about a magic dance between how I feel in that moment and how much I can let myself go with the flow. It is the opposite of thinking and planning, a child-like state. I play and I discover a new universe where neither time nor space exists.
I start with an idea; then the idea takes its own life. It’s more like I am a midwife, helping deliver something, than creating. I have to be open and aware, and figure out what it’s trying to become. Anything can happen at any point.
I think that we and everything around us, even our intentions and thoughts, are energy that vibrates at different frequencies. Hence, I believe that my paintings have their own life and vibration that can be felt at the subconscious level. When we are purely attracted from our heart by a piece of art, I think that we are captured by the vibration of the painting. In my opinion this vibration can empower us.
I encourage those of you who would like to acquire one of my paintings to try to sense if you feel attracted by the painting, just as you are attracted to a human being .
My latest project, the “Windows” series explores the dance between delicate forms of imaginary exotic Japanese gardens, fading images of old city’s walls and symbols from different cultures twisting and floating together in an alluring environment. Sometimes I like to add natural elements, like dried leaves or flowers.
My purpose is to create a transcendental space, which is seductively familiar and yet nostalgically exotic, including fine, little details, until a perfect balance is emanating. Both, the embroilment and high detail, in conjunction with whispers of existing organic shapes induce an intimate experience of a new, ethereal realm.
I am inspired by surrealism, juxtaposing various images together to give a startling effect. The images are often abstract and have a dream-like quality about them. Being influenced by my traveling throughout old European villages and towns, I acquired a grand admiration towards items with many layers of faded colors, a style that is now called “shabby chic”. This can be seen in my paintings with hints from French-style interior design, antique Chinese rugs and Japanese Kamon.
The term "Kamon" refers to a crest used in Japan to indicate one's origins; that is, one's family lineage, blood line, ancestry and status from ancient times. It is also referred to simply as “Mondokoro” or “Mon”. It is said that there are more than 20,000 distinct individual Kamon in Japan. Kamon is a unique culture and tradition you can find only in Japan.
I love to do different things and to combine them , to work in parallel on a few projects. When I am waiting for a layer to dry for one of the paintings I can start another one or work on a copper dream catcher .
